Amaal Mahamed, BA

Amaal joined the Geriatric Psychiatry Research Program as a Clinical Research Assistant in September 2022. She graduated from Columbia University with a BA in Psychology and a pre-medical track. Amaal will be working on a variety of studies including a longitudinal mood disorder study following participants with mood disorders, particularly those with Bipolar and Major Depressive Disorders, a pilot study examining the link between attention/executive function, inflammation, treatment resistance in older adults with treatment-refractory depression, and an intervention clinical trial targeting amyloid plaque, to stop or slow the potential disease progression in participants with early stages of Alzheimer’s. In the future, Amaal plans to pursue a career in clinical psychology.
